The Washington Post, in its Easter Sunday edition, raises a question at odds with its editorial policy: ”Time to stop hooking up? Why students are tired of casual sex’.

This is the same “Washington Compost” that crusades daily in its Style section for all forms of casual sex outside the boundaries of the Judeo Christian ethos that transformed Western Europe and then the United States paving the way for an enlightened world of peace.

But the twentieth century featured three world wars, the first two won by the Christian West and the third ideological showdown by the Marxist Leninists. Oh, did not Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and the new conservative media prevail against the Soviet Union? Did not the Berlin Wall come down?

Chris Banescu, writing for the American Thinker, points out the obvious. The once-Christian U.S. won the war but lost the culture and its soul in the process.

The prophetic words of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn resonate like thunder across the history of man.  “Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened.”  Thus summarized the Nobel laureate, Orthodox Christian author, and Russian dissident the main reason why the communist revolution was able to enslave, terrorize, and murder tens of millions of innocent people.  An atheistic mentality and a long process of secularization gradually alienated the people from God and His moral laws.  This led them away from truth and authentic liberty and facilitated the rise of tyranny.

Solzhenitsyn warned that by forgetting God, America and the West faced a “calamity of a despiritualized and irreligious humanistic consciousness” that would weaken their foundations and make them vulnerable to moral decay and internal collapse.  Only by turning back to God from the self-centered and atheistic humanism where “man is the touchstone [measure] in judging and evaluating everything on earth” would the West have any hope of escaping the destruction toward which it inevitably moves.

Unfortunately, America did not heed Solzhenitsyn’s warnings.  In the last several decades, America has been rapidly transformed from a God-fearing and worshiping nation into a secularist and atheistic society, where communist and atheistic ideals are glorified and promoted, while Judeo-Christian values and morality are attacked, ridiculed, and increasingly eradicated from the public and social consciousness of our nation.  Under the decades-long assault and militant radicalism of many so-called “liberal” and “progressive” elites, God and His moral laws have been progressively erased from our public and educational institutions, to be replaced with all manner of delusion, perversion, corruption, violence, decadence, and insanity.

The ideologicall and politically correct Washington Post, having banished conservative rivals The Washington Times and the Washington Examiner to irrelevancy, and itself sinking in red ink today allows a voice of cultural dissent (an academic after all): “Donna Freitas is the author of “The End of Sex: How Hookup Culture Is Leaving a Generation Unhappy, Sexually Unfulfilled, and Confused About Intimacy.” And we quote:

When I was an undergraduate at Georgetown University in the early 1990s, my roommate and I dressed up like prostitutes for Halloween. We bought fishnets, wore our tightest, sexiest clothes and sauntered out like we were the hottest girls alive. …

We think of college as a place where kids, perhaps free from their parents’ watchful eyes for the first time, can experiment sexually. Yet, my little adventure almost two decades ago seems innocent compared with hookup culture — a lifestyle of unemotional, unattached sex — so prevalent on campuses today. …

At one Catholic school, for instance, an all-girls, first-year hall was dubbed the Virgin Vault at the beginning of the year by the senior guys at the college. By the middle of the year, they called it the Slut Hut and later, the Lesbian Lair, implying that by the end of the year most of the hall’s residents had hooked up with women as well as men. While we can dismiss such nicknames as college humor, naming — though it can empower us to claim an identity or experience that previously seemed out of our grasp — can also pin us with stereotypes, experiences and identities we don’t want.

When students are expected to hook up with lots of people, doing so becomes dutiful, not daring. Older ideas of sexual exploration — be it same-sex encounters or one-night stands — have become a basic expectation.

Of the 1,230 students who answered an optional survey question in a study I conducted asking what their peers thought about sex in 2006, 45 percent of participants at Catholic schools and 36 percent at nonreligious private and public schools said their peers were too casual about sex, and they said privately that they wished this weren’t the case.

In conclusion, some words from the Easter story itself from New Testament book of Luke:

As they led Him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. There followed Him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented Him.But Jesus turning unto them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.”

Hope springs eternal. The free will of man, as has always been true, reigns supreme. We can damn well do as we please. May God continue to have mercy on drunks and the United States of America.
