IT’S NOT JUST IN YOUR MIND!

Transit of Venus today, June 5, is last until 2117

We’re not supposed to look directly at the sun and surprisingly, the Hubble space telescope can’t either.

Venus transits across the sun as seen over Hong Kong June 8, 2004.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency. NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland manages the telescope.

An exciting event is about to occur: “the transit of Venus,” meaning that the planet passes in front of the moon. This is the last time this century sky watchers can view Venus passing in front of the Sun. The next transit won’t happen until 2117. Venus transits occur in pairs, separated by eight years. The last event was witnessed in 2004.  SEE COMPLETE TEXT.
