Today’s headlineSurvivors describe Maui war zone horror as death toll continues to rise

It was no ordinary wildfire. Was it a natural or an unnatural disaster?

“We pick up remains and they fall apart,” said Maui County police chief John Pelletier on Saturday, four days after a massive wildfire tore downhill through dry brush and grass and engulfed the island’s western edge.

Close to 100 deaths have been confirmed, making the Lahaina wildfires the deadliest in the U.S. in more than a century. But just 3% of Lahaina’s charred ruins have been searched so far.

President Joe Biden had no comment, the federal government failed to rush to the scene and social media was ablaze with conspiracy theories of which climate change was the most tame.

“None of us really know the size of it yet,” chief Pelletier warned, growing visibly emotional, according to a BBC report.

We live in a time when official announcements and media reports clash with realities apparent to thinking people who exercise their critical faculties.

In earlier eras, people would reflect following natural disasters and ask what God wanted them to know. After Maui, one can’t help wondering if God has left America.
